The Lagos State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially postponed its governorship, State House of Assembly, and National Assembly primaries earlier scheduled to hold on Thursday, May 28, 2026.
The announcement was made in an official statement issued by the party’s Lagos State leadership on Thursday, confirming that the primaries will now take place on Friday, May 29, 2026.
The development immediately generated reactions among party members and political observers, as preparations intensify ahead of the crucial internal party exercise.
According to the statement signed by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Olushile Akinyemi, the postponement followed fresh consultations with stakeholders and logistical considerations surrounding the conduct of the primaries.
The party explained that the adjustment became necessary to allow broader engagement among stakeholders and to ensure the smooth distribution of electoral materials across all local government areas in Lagos State.
“This adjustment has been made to allow for more extensive stakeholder consultations and to give the State Secretariat adequate time to ensure all necessary election materials are properly mobilized,” the statement read.
The Lagos chapter of the NDC also apologized to delegates, aspirants, party members, and supporters who may be inconvenienced by the sudden change in schedule.
